Paradise Lost, paradise regained...

How strange are these names I thought when I first heard about it during my school days. How could someone write about these extremes or how could one experience these?. Well, the context in which I feel these are definitely way apart from what the poet John Milton had in mind.

Motherhood seems like a paradise lost and paradise gained all at the same time. Hmm to expand you lose a lot of freedom, time and not to mention sleep!! You have lost the paradise called independence. It feels like you are on the run all throughout. You find no time for a bath, breakfast or even your morning cup of coffee. Forget a leisure lunch, you should thank your angel if she lets you have a bite to sustain the energy, gives you a wee little time to gulp down a glass of water and of course to relieve yourself. Even when you are sleeping you are getting ready for the next task on hand. You never know when your little one will pounce hungry at you or cry for a reason you never discover. Forget time for friends or a visit to the beauty parlor, you should feel thankful if you know from which corner of the house your phone is ringing and trying to guess if it’s your hubby calling you for the nth time and giving you advice about baby sitting!!!

Ok… so you are asking me what did you gain? Well, there is a kind of a satisfaction when you little one burps after a happy leisure meal [ok you didn’t have your lunch.. I know], or the cute little smile she gives when she falls asleep on your lap after a tiresome crying session [oh.. so sad you have hardly slept last night.] You have gained a paradise called Motherhood. The comfort feeling she shows when you cuddle up to her, the strange look on her face when she sees a new face, the gurgles and coos waking you up every morning,... and a lot more. Only a mother can feel these or probably add more to this list.

To all the women who are on the see-saw thinking if-if-not, you gotta experience it to really feel what being a mother is really like.
