Euphoria

Yesterday's MTV unplugged program was more of nostalgia than Euphoric. Listening to the band Euphoria on the program took me back to my college days. There were 3 of us who were huge fans of Dr.Palash Sen's songs. There was a special tree opposite our college library and the place was called 'somari katte'. We would sit there and sing almost all the songs from his album idling away our time. The song "धूम  पिचक धूम" was a huge hit, we would bang it on the college desk, on the drawing  board and almost any place.

I don't know if the 2 other friends remember these special moments. Afraid of spending too much, each of us would buy one of his albums and share it. But hey why always walk back the sad lanes, I sang the song to my tinnie-winnie daughter and she started laughing loud!!! Wow, I got a new company to sing this song allover again  :-)

Also now I have the money to buy his old albums as well as buy and GIFT his new album "ITEM" to my friends toooooo....धिग्ग-धिग्ग-धिग्ग-धिग्ग!!

Extraaa

I was searching for some extra tissue to clean up my little one’s poo-poo when I heard Shilpa Shetty tell that she also needed something extra hmmm and then there was Ira Dubey proclaiming  "Mujhe chachiye kuch extra" and then there was Bunty’s mom telling "nimage beku swalpa extra"…

Just a few minutes gape at the TV and there are a whole lot of extras. Initially you need  extra rich shampoo to clean and condition your hair, now the “extra” makes your hair gray! So you will need some extra glossy hair color to cover the gray and you get a glossy looking-oh-not-my-hair color. Oops..oops..oops you spilt the hair color on your white kurta, never mind. There is the extra intelligent washing machine and the extra powerful detergent that will wash away your dirty linen.. I mean the color from your white kurta. Now after using all these extra-powerful-intelligent utilities you are tired. Don’t worry, the market is flooded with nutrition drinks that give you the extra edge to retain your energy back in a whoosh. But even after the extra drink with extra minerals, iron calcium and what-not, you still look dull and old at 30? Don’t worry you use the face wash, facial creams, powder etc which that extra chemicals in them to make you look extra young.

Now your washing, cooking, cleaning everything is done by the extra powerful gadgetry so what do you do with your “extra” time? Watch more TV to find what else is extra in the market!!!

Paradise Lost, paradise regained...

How strange are these names I thought when I first heard about it during my school days. How could someone write about these extremes or how could one experience these?. Well, the context in which I feel these are definitely way apart from what the poet John Milton had in mind.

Motherhood seems like a paradise lost and paradise gained all at the same time. Hmm to expand you lose a lot of freedom, time and not to mention sleep!! You have lost the paradise called independence. It feels like you are on the run all throughout. You find no time for a bath, breakfast or even your morning cup of coffee. Forget a leisure lunch, you should thank your angel if she lets you have a bite to sustain the energy, gives you a wee little time to gulp down a glass of water and of course to relieve yourself. Even when you are sleeping you are getting ready for the next task on hand. You never know when your little one will pounce hungry at you or cry for a reason you never discover. Forget time for friends or a visit to the beauty parlor, you should feel thankful if you know from which corner of the house your phone is ringing and trying to guess if it’s your hubby calling you for the nth time and giving you advice about baby sitting!!!

Ok… so you are asking me what did you gain? Well, there is a kind of a satisfaction when you little one burps after a happy leisure meal [ok you didn’t have your lunch.. I know], or the cute little smile she gives when she falls asleep on your lap after a tiresome crying session [oh.. so sad you have hardly slept last night.] You have gained a paradise called Motherhood. The comfort feeling she shows when you cuddle up to her, the strange look on her face when she sees a new face, the gurgles and coos waking you up every morning,... and a lot more. Only a mother can feel these or probably add more to this list.

To all the women who are on the see-saw thinking if-if-not, you gotta experience it to really feel what being a mother is really like.
